Viva Las Vegas

Last week Brandon and I headed to Vegas for a tradeshow for his work.  We were originally asked to attend pretty soon after I found out I was pregnant, though we hadn’t told anyone we were expecting yet.  I googled information about flying when pregnant to see how late into my third trimester I could fly and we happily agreed to go.  We had a great time although I must admit, while flying and traveling is safe to do in your third trimester…it may not be the most comfortable thing to do.  We did have a good time, learned lots, saw some crazy only-in-Vegas things and brought home a gift for baby—after all it was our little one’s first time in Vegas (and mine too!). I took our little point and shoot camera since the thought of carrying around any more extra pounds by bringing my better equipment didn’t really appeal to me.  So I’ve included some of my snap shots below and a couple little videos.  Don’t mind the blurriness—they were all taken at night on automatic and I only stopped walking to take a couple of them—the rest were taken on the go!  I only took 29 pictures in four days…whereas I took several thousand in Maui last year in that much time so my trigger finger has definitely slowed a bit since getting pregnant.  If you’ve been to Vegas I’d love to hear what your favorite thing to see or do was—we didn’t get to see too much of the city and I can’t wait to go back someday so I can see more.

The expo…

My favorite place we went was Fremont Street Experience in the old part of Las Vegas—I love the hourly music/light shows (although I wish I could have picked the music) on the covered dome, the crazy street performers, the spray paint painter, the old Vegas neon lights and the zip lining overtop.  It was like a free circus/amusement park/freak show all rolled into one!  I would love to shoot a session there amidst all the chaos!  I also had my first gambling experience at a tiny little casino down there…I learned how to play slot machines and I lost all of my $7 before I got tired of watching the machine eat my money and I quit.

We saw all sorts of characters including several Elvis, Michael Jackson, Brett Michaels, Star Trek people, scantily clad show girls and “statue” people.

My second favorite place we went was MGM Grand to see the lions.  We saw two lions lazily playing with a large ball, chewing on treats and licking their handlers.  I thought it was really interesting that the lions don’t live at the casino and they only are in the exhibit about 5 hours a day, a couple days a week.  Much better living conditions then I assumed they had.  Our little baby Stremler got a sweet little lion stuffed animal to commemorate the occasion.  I wanted to bring home a real lion and Brandon agreed on one condition…I have to make $13 million/year as income.  That is a lot of sessions and weddings or 13 really expensive ones…so I don’t think I’ll have one any time soon…

Crazy Days!

Hey everyone!  Sorry it has been a little slow on here for the past several months—pregnancy has been a bit challenging!  While we are incredibly blessed and excited about this little one joining us in about two and half months, it has been quite a roller coaster ride to keep up with life and juggle the crazy things happening to me at the same time.  Unfortunately, this blog has suffered!  My goal over this next year is to get a little more personal on here.  While I love sharing my recent photo shoots and will continue to do so, I want to help you get to know me a little better in the process.  So be prepared for random posts about my life, thoughts, and baby progress.  The good news is that hopefully in a few months I will have an incredibly adorable baby to brag about so you’ll at least get some cute pictures out of the deal!

One thing pregnancy has done for me is given me some seriously crazy dreams, that is when I am actually able to get some sleep.  In my non-pregnant state I have frequent and freakish nightmares—apparently my subconscious mind thinks a lot of people want to kill me.  However ever since I’ve been pregnant I don’t think I’ve had a single nightmare—which has been a fabulous thing!  I’m considering being pregnant for the rest of my life just to avoid nightmares!  Instead of nightmares, my sleep has been filled with crazy, quirky, totally not logical yet incredibly realistic dreams.  So realistic in fact that I’ve had a hard time trying to keep the semi-logical dreams straight from real life and keeping the totally non-logical dreams from affecting my mood.  It is so overwhelming strange.  For example—I was quite certain my sister told me that size 3 soccer balls are good for little kids because they are pretty flat on one side so they don’t roll too far…newsflash…balls are round (all the way around) even though my dreams tell me otherwise.

Sometimes I think my dreams relate to what is going on in real life.  When I first started feeling the baby kick I dreamt that our baby was born with four legs and no one told me—I didn’t find out until I had to change his diaper.  The ultrasound has since proven there are only two legs, though he/she is quite a kick boxer!  I had a crazy, crazy dream last night that included a cold lake, a donkey, nearly drowning because my tummy is so big and my husband saving my life.  I’m fairly certain it might have something to with all the water surrounding our house due to flooding, my tummy which seems so big right now to me, and my amazing husband who is so incredibly patient and understanding with all the pregnancy-related issues occurring to me.  I have no idea, however, how a donkey ended up in the dream.

Long story short—I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little more in this coming year and if you suffer from nightmares I highly recommend pregnancy has a remedy although be prepared for the crazy, quirky dreams that take their place!

Here are some pictures, because no post is a good post without pictures!  Though I must admit I have not been shooting for myself for the last few months, I hope to change that soon as I start to organize my new office and make lots of adorable things for decorating our little one’s nursery!

Things I’m Thankful For II

Today I am thankful for the following:

- A warm home and all of the love of friends and family who helped us build it…as well as all of my daffodils that I didn’t pay a dime for.  They are so cheery in the late winter/early spring!  And I don’t think I ever put a picture of the completed house online yet, so here you go!

IMG_7993 In looking at this picture it looks like there is some weird distortion going on, but in reality the house is on an angle to the garage, no crazy curving pictures here.

- Snow!  A couple weeks ago Brandon and I were driving around in the hills and it started dumping down snow—it was fabulous!  It wasn’t really sticking but it was so pretty and fun!  I noticed the weather forecast is calling for potential snow next week, I say…BRING IT!  I’m so ready!

- Extra sensitive, crazy smelling abilities thanks to my prego state!  Sometimes it is not so fun to smell every vague scent wafting by—for instance, if you have smoked a cigarette or been near one in the last 6 months…I can smell it a mile away (slight exaggeration but only slight…).  However—this time of year I am really appreciating the yummy scents of fall leaves, pumpkin pie, cinnamon candles and sweet treats baking.  It is really making me slow down a bit and enjoy the little things—like all the smells I can’t help but notice!  And I’m really looking forward to the smell of snow…my favorite!

What are you thankful for?

Did I tell you?

In case you don’t know yet, Brandon and I have exciting news!

We are expecting baby Stremler around April 2nd 2011.  We are incredibly excited and can’t wait to meet the little one!

This picture is from a few weeks ago, I thought my tummy look big then but I’m now 15 weeks and my tummy is much more baby-bump-ish.  I can only image how big it is going to get in the next few months.
